We work really hard to understand each of our clients’ needs and priorities. This means that, wherever we can and without any charge, we will arrange an introductory meeting on-site and will also offer to attend Board or senior management meetings periodically – that way we really get to understand how you work, what is going on in your business, your goals and what makes you tick.
We undertake 3 main types of work for employers:
We provide clear and pragmatic advice on day to day HR legal matters such as disciplinary and grievance issues; managing sickness absence and family leave entitlements. We also review key employment documentation including employment contracts, policies and handbooks to ensure they’re legally compliant and at all times fit for purpose.
We can guide you through more complex HR legal issues such as dealing with ending an employment relationship (including negotiated exits), restructuring and redundancies and TUPE transfers
Sometimes an Employment Tribunal claim can’t be avoided. We can work with you every step of the way, from the first contact through ACAS to final Tribunal hearing. We’ll advise you about the strength of your defence and tactical considerations.
We help senior executives in each of the following ways:
We will give an informed view on whether the terms of your service agreement are reasonable and identify any potential gaps or omissions in the overall package being offered. We’ll give you a clear steer on the likely enforceability of any restrictive covenants and advise you on your duties and responsibilities. Whether you’re a seasoned executive or someone stepping up into an executive role for the first time, we’ll be on hand to ensure you start your new role on the right footing.
When it comes to negotiating your exit, it is important that you choose the right adviser; not just someone independent to sign off the adviser’s certificate but someone to be on hand to guide and support you through the negotiation process and who has the skill to secure the best outcome for you. We believe we fit that bill. We’re accustomed to dealing with complex director arrangements on termination, including tricky pension and share option arrangements, and will devise creative solutions and strategies to best achieve your aims.
We regularly act for senior executives in contractual, bonus and other disputes at pre-action stage and will also act as your representative in any relevant Tribunal or Court process.
We can advise you on your employment situation, what the financial and non-financial terms of the settlement agreement mean for you, whether we believe them to be reasonable in your circumstances and what impact they may have on the work you can do in the future. We also have experience of advising individuals on all aspects of employee shareholder arrangements.
In large redundancy or restructuring exercises, we can act as the independent adviser to groups of employees on their individual settlement agreements.
For employers wishing to outsource some or all of the settlement agreement process, we will consult with you to devise an efficient process to suit your requirements, timescales and budget.
We can devise a bespoke training session or suite of training modules to fit your particular training requirements. We can deliver that training at your premises or at our office.
Our Managing the Employee Lifeline training course is described by clients as “relevant, interactive, thought provoking and extremely useful in highlighting potential HR pitfalls” and “essential for anyone line managing staff or running a business”. Download more information here.
We also have our own programme of training events covering topical employment issues.
We are an accredited training provider for the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (“LEP”) skills service meaning that employers can obtain grants covering up to 50% of the cost of training. Please contact us for more details.
