Meet the team: Introducing Laura Gillhespy

Our meet the team series continues as we introduce Laura Gillhespy, our associate and specialist employment law solicitor.

Introduce yourself and your part in Team Torque.

I am an Associate at Torque Law, having joined the team from a multi-national firm based in Leeds.

I particularly enjoy defending employment tribunal claims for employers and using my experience to guide them to the best outcome possible, with as little stress as possible.

Who/what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

I knew I wanted to be a lawyer at secondary school (so, a very long time ago). I studied A Level Law and really enjoyed learning all the case law, which further cemented my decision.

Falling into employment law felt very natural to me. I knew within the first week of my training seat in the employment department that I wanted to qualify into it.

After 5 years at a large corporate firm, I decided to join a specialist employment law firm – Torque Law – and the rest is history!

What energises you at work?

I enjoy building rapport with clients and building professional relationships. It is always easy to stay energised when you develop a good working relationship with the people you are advising.

Whilst I don’t agree with the cliché that all lawyers like arguing, I do enjoy the contentious side of Employment Law and it keeps me motivated to secure the best outcome possible for my clients.

…and the Ice Coffee, of course!

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

My weekends are generally spent looking after my two small children, who are Spider-man and Frozen obsessed.

We love going swimming and bowling (my 2-year-old always wins).

Do you have a favourite country?

I lived in China for 18 months before doing my Legal Practice Course. Whilst I love China and would like to go back one day, my favourite country is South Korea. I fell in love with the Korean BBQs, friendly people, cool fashion styles, the safe environment and 24/7 shopping centres!
