Meet the team: Introducing Sarah Martin

Our meet the team series continues as we introduce Sarah Martin, our legal practice assistant.

Introduce yourself and your part in Team Torque.

I’ve worked in the legal profession from leaving school, too many years ago to mention, working in a variety of different areas developing my paralegal knowledge and skills.  My work includes assisting with workload and related administration including legal research, client support and providing both marketing and office assistance.

Who/what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

A family member followed a similar path to me working as personal assistant to a solicitor for many years, albeit in very different times in terms of technology and opportunity.  Having had the opportunity to interview for a junior role in a small local law firm on leaving school, I thought it would be something that would interest me.  I’ve been very fortunate to be able to work in many different areas of law over the years and the opportunities to develop skills are so much more than they were.  I’ve taken many different twists and turns and grabbed opportunities along the way to learn and progress.

What energises you at work?

I enjoy working with enthusiastic like-minded people whose primary purpose is to do the best job for the clients.  We spend a lot of our time at work and I’m grateful to be working with a super friendly team who are focused on the job, but also ensure that everyone is well supported with bags of encouragement to push themselves further to develop.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Weekends are often spent in my allotment attempting to grow produce and flowers after a Saturday morning 5k park run when time allows.  I also play both squash and tennis on a regular basis and enjoy country walks and visits to the cinema and theatre.  Sundays are generally a roast dinner for the family and watching the teatime footie.   I’m a loyal York City fan and if I can’t get to the game, I will often listen to the match on the radio while gardening.
