Torque Law Accelerates Growth With New Office And Top Talent

York-based specialist employment law firm, Torque Law, continues to grow in both size and reputation after a year marked by national industry recognition and high-profile client wins, making the firm ideally placed to advise regional and national employers on complex changes to employment law on the near horizon.

To celebrate, key clients and contacts were invited to the firm’s new offices at Box Tree House, Northminster Business Park, where the team officially opened the space and welcomed several new hires.

Among them is experienced employment law solicitor Sally Vasey and well-known employment specialist Penny Wellock, strengthening the firm’s capacity to serve its ever-growing roster of household-name clients.

Emma Whiting, Partner, commented: “This move marks a milestone for Torque Law. Our new office and incoming talent reflect both the strength of our growth and our commitment to delivering the highest level of service. Sally and Penny bring exceptional expertise, and we are thrilled to have them on board as we take the firm to the next level.”

Torque Law’s rapid upwards trajectory has been driven by a client-centric approach and consistently high referral volumes cementing the firm’s position as  the  most trusted employment law team in the region.  With a steadfast dedication to excellence, the firm is regularly instructed on high-profile matters referred by global law firms, boosting its market share of complex household-name work.

National recognition, such as featuring on the Times Best Law Firms 2025 list alongside international practices, being recognised by the Legal500 Directory for achieving “truly outstanding client satisfaction excellence”, as well as holding a Band 1 ranking in the Chambers & Partners Directory, has further strengthen its reputation. In an industry often dominated by London-based practices, these national accolades highlight Torque Law’s commitment to making York a hub for top-tier professional services.

Partner and co-founder, Tiggy Clifford, said: “We are delighted that our recent achievements have fuelled demand for our services but growth means nothing without quality. We’ve been deliberate in making strategic decisions to protect what makes Torque different: a deep understanding of our clients and unwavering standards of excellence. As we expand, we remain laser-focused on delivering superior results while keeping our clients’ needs forefront.”

Having grown by more than 50% in the past year, Torque Law is set to take yet another important strategic step: a senior hire from a leading regional firm will be announced next month, taking the team to fifteen and reinforcing the firm’s reputation as a destination for top-tier legal talent. The firm will use this strong platform and collective expertise to support local and national employers to navigate the significant legal and people challenges presented by the Employment Rights Bill reforms which are set to come into force over the next 12-18 months.
