Meet the Team – Introducing Rosie Cowling

In the latest in our ‘meet the team’ series, we introduce Rosie, our Associate Solicitor.

Tell us about yourself?

I’m an Associate at Torque Law, specialising in employment law, with a keen interest in discrimination. Previously, I was the leader of a legal advice helpline team, therefore I am experienced in providing valuable, clear and pragmatic advice across the breadth of employment law.

Who/what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

Controversially, I wasn’t the child who dreamt of being a lawyer. Although, from being a young child I always had an interest in the justice system. I wasn’t entirely sure what I “wanted to be when I grew up” therefore throughout my education I always used the motto the focus on subjects that I most enjoyed – which is why I decided to study Law it at University. Upon graduation I joined a Yorkshire firm, and it wasn’t until I completed my seat in Employment as a trainee solicitor that I discovered my passion.

What energises you at work?

Adding value – whether that be to my clients, or my colleagues. I love to feel that I am adding value each day.

What’s something that made you smile recently?

Being in the Torque office amongst my colleagues (including Pip, our office dog) enjoying the camaraderie. Although I have only recently joined, the team have immediately made me feel so welcome.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

For me, weekends are very much family time. My husband and I have a young son, who loves the great outdoors, therefore we enjoy going out on walks and soaking up the Yorkshire countryside or meeting with friends. Sunday tends to be taking advantage of a roast dinner at our parents (although I’m not sure how much longer I will be able to avoid being the host!).

Do you have a favourite quote?

Like Emma, I love The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. I like to open the book on a random page and soak up the inspirational quotes. Aside from this, I adore a quote by Booker T. Washington which is, “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” There could never be enough kindness in the world, and I think its important to remember that impact we have on others.
